Admission requirements for
entering CPE program
Peabody...blew a smoke ring. He looked at me for a moment and then
continued. "It is said there is an exception to every rule."
Galen Winter in The Chronicles of Major Peabody
RULE: In order to be accepted for enrollment in our CPE training program,
applicants must have at least a Bachelors degree. The major should be in Divinity,
Pastoral Ministry, Theology, Education, Social Work, or other human services field.
EXCEPTION: On a case-by-case basis, our admission team may waive the
bachelors degree requirement. Reasons for this action might include several years
of ministry, teaching in a church or parochial school, service as a para-professional
in a treatment center or other helping field. Another example might be having
entered college and left quite close to graduation.
RULE: Successful applicants are given preference if they have earned a Master’s
degree in Divinity, Pastoral Ministry, Theology, Education, Social Work, or other
human services field
EXCEPTION: Same as above -
"On a case-by-case basis, our
admission team may waive the
Masters degree requirement.
Reasons for this action might
include several years of ministry,
teaching in a church or parochial
school, service as a para-
professional in a treatment center
or other helping field. Another
example might be having entered
college and left quite close to
graduation." In other cases, an applicant may have been retained to serve in a
position that, at that time, did not require a Masters degree but the industry has more
stringent standards today. Yet, the applicant has served admirably through an
extended period of time without the Masters and an exception may be granted
based on success in a real-life experience situation.
RULE: A successful applicant will be a ordained member of the clergy, or a
professionally trained chaplain or, perhaps, an unordained person who has served in
ministry or pastorate for a prolonged period of time. Other possibilities include
doctors, nurses, funeral directors, monks, sisters, missionaries, etc.
EXCEPTION: Our admissions and academic screening team will also assist CPE
applicants desiring to enroll in our chaplaincy ordination training programs, or
other comparable schooling,
RULE: All applicants will have to complete an interview with our team. It is possible
for this interview to take place during a phone call or during a video conference.
EXCEPTION: There can be no exceptions to this requirement
RULE: In order to be considered for enrollment in our CPE training
program, applicants must submit at least three references that can be
documented. Two must be professional and one may be from a personal
friend or close acquaintance.
EXCEPTION: There is no exception. This is required by our board of trustees
LASTLY, A FINAL IMPORTANT STEP: Folks who apply for enrollment in our
CPE training programs should be able demonstrate a strong and enduring
commitment to their faith tradition.
We are a not-for-profit inter-faith non-denominational Center of Educational
Excellence. We consider for enrollment all otherwise qualified applicants without
regard to race, creed, color, ethnicity, national origin, religion, sex, gender, age
(applicants must be at least 18-years of age), physical or mental ability, veteran
status, military obligations, or marital status.
